Understanding Tesamorelin: The Visceral Fat Reduction Solution

What It Is
Tesamorelin (as tesamorelin acetate) is a synthetic peptide consisting of 44 amino acids. It is a stabilized analogue of Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH), modified with an anchoring hexenoyl group at its N-terminal tyrosine to enhance its stability, metabolic half-life, and resistance to enzymatic degradation compared to natural GHRH.
The clinical development of Tesamorelin stemmed from the critical need to address metabolic complications observed in HIV-infected patients undergoing highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). In November 2010, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved tesamorelin under the brand name Egrifta® to reduce excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected patients with lipodystrophy.
